Membership and the Scheme
Aumré Financial Group is a member of the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA). As a member holding a current Public Practice Certificate, Aumré participates in the IPA Professional Standards Scheme, an Australian professional standards scheme approved under Professional Standards Legislation.
Participation in the Scheme limits Aumré's liability for damages arising from occupational liability claims. The Scheme identifies participants as responsible professionals who have adequate resources to meet claims made against them, up to a specified limit.
A professional standards scheme is a legal instrument approved under the Professional Standards Act 1994 and its equivalents in each state and territory. It obliges the professional association to monitor, enforce and improve the professional standards of its members, and is designed to protect the consumers who use their services. Other professions, including lawyers and surveyors, operate under similar schemes. General information about schemes is available from the Professional Standards Councils.
How the Scheme works
The Scheme caps the amount of damages that can be awarded against a participating member for professional negligence. The cap begins at $2 million and is determined by the type of service provided and the fee income of the practice.
In return, participants are bound to uphold professional standards, complete continuing professional development, operate a risk management framework, and hold professional indemnity insurance at or above the level the Scheme requires.
The Scheme is not insurance. It is a liability-limiting instrument that operates alongside the professional indemnity insurance we are separately required to hold as a Registered Tax Agent and as an IPA member in public practice.
What this means for our clients
Participation in the Scheme provides:
- a defined and disclosed limit on liability for occupational liability claims
- assurance that Aumré holds professional indemnity insurance at or above the level the Scheme requires
- oversight by an association bound to monitor and enforce professional standards
- access to an established complaints and disciplinary process
What the Scheme does not cover
The Scheme does not limit liability for personal injury or death. It does not limit liability arising under a Commonwealth law unless the Scheme has been prescribed under Commonwealth regulations. It applies only to acts or omissions occurring while the Scheme is in force and while Aumré is a participant in it.
Nothing on this page varies the terms of any engagement letter. Where an engagement letter addresses liability, those terms apply to that engagement.

As a participant in the Scheme, Aumré Financial Group is committed to:

- adhering to the professional and ethical standards issued by the Accounting Professional & Ethical Standards Board (APESB)
